Chennai: In a move aimed at improving passenger comfort and ensuring a peaceful travel experience, the Chief Minister Vijay-led government has announced a new regulation for passengers travelling on state-run comfort buses.

According to the new guideline, passengers will no longer be allowed to play music or videos aloud through mobile phone speakers or portable audio devices while travelling. Instead, those wishing to enjoy music, movies, or other audio content must use earphones or headphones, ensuring that fellow passengers are not disturbed.

Transport officials stated that the decision was taken following numerous complaints from commuters regarding loud music, videos, and social media content played during journeys, especially on long-distance comfort buses.

The government believes the new rule will enhance the overall travel experience by:

• Creating a quieter and more relaxing atmosphere for passengers.
• Reducing unnecessary noise during long-distance journeys.

Penalties for Violations

Officials have indicated that conductors and transport inspectors may warn passengers who fail to follow the rule. Repeated violations could attract penalties under applicable public transport regulations.
